AirDOC’s latest decal sheet provides markings for RF-4Cs and F-4Gs which saw service in the Persian Gulf. Codes are provided for 17 aircraft, 10 RF-4Cs and 7 F-4Gs, all in the Hill Grey II scheme. Of the RF-4Cs, eight of the aircraft shown have the “flat” recce nose, while the other two have the later “rounded” nose. The aircraft on the sheet are as follows:

  1. RF-4C, 64-1044, 106th TRS, 117th TRW, Birmingham, Alabama, 1990

  2. RF-4C, 65-0833, 106th TRS, 117th TRW, Sheikh Isa AB, Bahrain, 1991

  3. RF-4C, 64-1047, 106th TRS, 117th TRW, Sheikh Isa AB, Bahrain, 1991

  4. RF-4C, 65-0843, 106th TRS, 117th TRW, Sheikh Isa AB, Bahrain, 1991

  5. RF-4C, 69-0382, 12th TRS, 67th TRW, Sheikh Isa AB, Bahrain, 1990

  6. RF-4C, 65-0886, 192nd TRS, Nevada ANG, Sheikh Isa AB, Bahrain, 1990

  7. RF-4C, 69-0370, 38th TRS, Incirlink AB, Turkey, 1991

  8. RF-4C, 69-0383, 38th TRS, Incirlink AB, Turkey, 1991 (rounded nose)

  9. RF-4C, 69-0570, 38th TRS, 26th TRW, Incirlink AB, Turkey, 1991

  10. RF-4C, 71-0249, 38th TRS, Zweibrüken AB, Germany 1991 (this was actually an attrition aircraft that never left Germany – rounded nose)

  11. F-4G, 69-7232, 561st FS, Dhahran AB, Saudi Arabia, 1994 (Operation Southern Watch)

  12. F-4G, 69-0278, 561st FS, Dhahran AB, Saudi Arabia, 1994 (Operation Southern Watch)

  13. F-4G, 69-7582, 52nd TFW, Spangdahlem AB, Germany 1988 (Wing Commander’s aircraft with colors of all the squadrons on the fin cap pod)

  14. F-4G, 69-7582, 52nd TFW, Spangdahlem AB, Germany 1990 (same as above, but with only 81st TFS yellow stripe on the tail)

  15. F-4G, 69-7270, 81st TFS, 52nd TFW, Dhahran AB, Saudi Arabia, 1994

  16. F-4G, 69-7586, 81st TFS, 52nd FW, Spangdahlem AB, Germany 1994

  17. F-4G, 69-7228, 81st TFS, 52nd FW, Spangdahlem AB, Germany 1994

While the units that operated RF-4Cs during Desert Shield/Desert Storm are represented on the sheet, surprisingly there are no decals for the “WW” coded F-4Gs of the 561th TFS / 35th TFW from George AFB. While most of the aircraft on the sheet have mission markings and many have sharkmouths, there is little in the way of specialty nose or intake art other than two of the F-4Gs which have “YGBSM” or “Spook” artwork on their splitter plates.

The decals are thin and well printed by Cartograf of Italy. A number of RF-4Cs have the anti-glare panel that wraps completely around the radome. This style features a thin cheat line that runs next to the edge of the panel and AirDOC provides the line in decal form for those who don’t want to paint it. Insignia and stenciling are provided for one aircraft.

Recommended.
