24-010 is Custom Aeronautical
Miniatures (Cam Decals) latest sheet in their coverage of the North
American P-51D. This sheet covers a single aircraft, “Skeeter’s
Scooter” - 44-15102 which was flown by Lt John F. McAlevy of the 370th
Fighter Squadron, 350th Fighter Group whilst it was based
at East Wretham, UK in 1944.
The aircraft is in overall
natural metal finish and it bears green nose worn by all of the 350th
Fighter Group’s aircraft, and a blue rudder denoting that it was
an aircraft of the 370th Fighter Squadron. The aircraft
originally wore the black band theatre markings on its wings and
horizontal stabilizers but these had been removed leaving a lighter
shade of aluminium- no doubt as the result of the removal process.
The
markings consist of:
·
The 370ths “CS” squadron codes with
the individual “T” aircraft code for the fuselage.
·
A set of national insignia (gee they
are big in 1/24th scale!)
·
The aircraft serial number for the
vertical stabilizer/rudder.
·
The “Skeeter’s Scooter” name for the
nose (left side only).
·
The pilot’s name for the canopy
rail.
·
A fairly complete set of stencil
data. Yes, the data block has the correct serial number.
The decal placement guide is a
single-sided A-4 sized sheet that shows both left and right hand side
profiles as well as a complete topside plan view and the lower
surfaces of the wings. A further left hand side view, this time in
colour, is shown on the stiff cardboard header.
The decal sheet has been
printed by Microscale and is up to their usual high standard.
The decal sheet, placement
guide and header are packed in a clear plastic zip-loc bag, pretty
much the industry standard nowadays.
It is great to see CAM
Decals producing sheets for these larger kits. It is also great to
see that they have gone the extra length and produced decals for
aircraft that have not been covered before in any scale.
This is a nice sheet by CAM
Decals that will really make your Airfix or Trumpeter 1/24th
scale P-51D stand out.
Recommended.
