More 1/24 scale Mustangs from Custom Aeronautical
Miniatures (Cam Decals). As with their other 1/24 scale sheets,
markings are provided for a single aircraft only.
This sheet provides markings
for 42-106750, a P-51C of the 5th Fighter Squadron, 52nd
Fighter Group when it was based at Madna, Italy in 1944.
The aircraft is in overall
natural metal with the entire empennage in yellow. The nose and
spinner are in red and the anti-glare panel is edged in red. There is
also a thin black band dividing the yellow of the empennage and the
natural metal of the fuselage. The markings consist of:
-
Black
VF squadron codes for the fuselage.
-
Black outline 5 for
the tail with small red BY letters centred in the middle of the 5.
-
A set of “greyed
out” national insignia.
-
Black 2106750 serial
for the vertical stabilizer/rudder.
-
The thin red line
that separates the olive drab anti-glare from the natural metal of
the nose.
-
The thin black band
that separates the yellow of the empennage from the natural metal of
the fuselage.
-
A reasonably
complete set of stencil data in black (with the exception of the red
NO-STEP of the left hand side flap).
The decal placement guide is
by a single-sided A-4 sized sheet that shows left and right hand side
profiles as well as complete top view of the aircraft with scrap views
of the lower wings. The header card has a colour left hand side
view. The placement guide also provides comprehensive painting
notes.
The decals themselves are
carried on two sheets and have been printed by Microscale. They are
sharp, clear and in perfect register. The decal sheets, header card
and placement guide are all packed in a clear plastic zip-loc bag.
Be aware that you cannot buy a
1/24 scale P-51B off the shelf today. However, CAM Decals do produce
1/32 scale decals for the Rutman P-47N Thunderbolt conversion so
perhaps Rutman also have a 1/24 scale P-51B in the works or we may see
another manufacturer offer this subject in large scale in the future.
