Custom Aeronautical Miniatures 48-042 consists of a 5 ˝” by 7 5/8” full colour decal sheet, a 5 1/2” by 2 1/2” sheet featuring 8 stars and separately printed bars and a black and white instruction sheet. This decal set focuses on two grey over white Skyhawks from VA-152 and VA-212.

The artwork was done by Kamikaze Studio Concepts and the decals printed by Microscale. The decals are crisply printed with the smaller fonts being quite legible. The recommended kits are the Hobbycraft or Monogram A4E/F. I would think that most of the markings would be quite useable on the Hasegawa kit with the possible exception of the rudder flashes.

A-4E Bu No 150001

Bu No 150001, “500”, is an A4E from VA-152 “Wild Aces” that was serving in CVW-8 on the USS Shangri-La in 1970.

This sheet provides the unit emblem, a winged Ace of Spades inside a yellow bordered black circle with a stylised arrow in yellow fore and aft of the insignia, and CAG markings for the white rudder. CAM has provided a correction decal for the rudder marking as the lower rudder flash should be green and was printed in white. Not indicated on the instruction sheet is what I assume to be markings for the external tanks, which are similar to the unit markings for the side of the aircraft.

A-4F Bu No 154973

Bu No 154973, “304”, is an A4F from VA-212 “Rampart Raiders” that was serving in CVW-21 on the USS Hancock in 1973.

The unit emblem, a yellow lion rampart on a black shield with a scroll beneath denoting the unit number and a large black ‘Nike’ swoosh are provided. This aircraft also features the pilots name in a black border and a black and yellow checkerboard marking for the top of the rudder.

A range of stencils including intake, hook, blast, arrestor hook stripes and ejection seat warnings are provided for each aircraft. Grey and black walkways are provided.

CAM is to be congratulated for production of a very attractive and beautifully printed sheet.

Recommended.
