Cutting Edge has introduced another fine quality decal sheet
depicting schemes for three A-7D Corsairs nicknamed SLUF. This is
the second sheet in the Hot SLUFs series.
The decals are designed for the Trumpeter 1/32 scale kit. The decals
are superbly printed with good colour saturation and excellent
register. As usual the carrier film is ultra thin and my experience
with Cutting Edge decals that I have used in the past is that the
decals have to be handled carefully and snuggle down into the
surface detail well. I always use decal setting solution but this is
not necessary. The carrier film then almost totally disappears under
a coat of clear.
Very few data decals are provided so you may
need to refer to the kit decal sheets for these but full national
markings are provided for the 3 aircraft as follows
-
A-7D of 388 TFW
3rd TFS flown by Lt Riggs based at Korat RTAFB Thailand in Dec
1972. This aircraft was painted in the South East Asia scheme of
FS34079, FS34102, FS30219 on the upper surface and FS36622 on
the lower surface. The aircraft has a large sharks mouth painted
on either side of the intake.
-
A-7D of the
Colorado ANG, 140 TFW, 120 TFS and was the Wing commanders
personal jet when they were the winners of the TAC Gunsmoke
competition in 1981. This aircraft was painted in the South East
Asia wrap around scheme of FS34079, FS34102, and FS30219. The
aircraft has a large sharks mouth painted on either side of the
intake.
-
A-7D of 354 TFW
flown by Capt Don Cornell based at Korat RTAFB Thailand in Dec
1972. This aircraft was painted in the South East Asia scheme of
FS34079, FS34102, FS30219 on the upper surface and FS36622 on
the lower surface. The aircraft has the motto World Champs and
Speedwell Gunsmoke 81 painted just behind the cockpit on the
left hand side.
