It is fairly rare to see the major decal companies releasing markings for limited run kits, but I was delighted to see that Cutting Edge has a new offering for Classic Airframes' Westland Wyven S.4. Three sets of markings are supplied:

  • "270" of 813 NAS ("Dennis the Menace")

  • "380" of 831 NAS ("The Flook").

  • Black and Yellow Operation Musketeer theatre stripes worn by 830 NAS during the Suez War in November 1956.

All the unique markings are provided for the first two options. For "378", the stripes alone are included. The decals in the Classic Airframes kit are very good, but they do not include the stripes. Modellers who do not feel confident masking and spraying will welcome this decal alternative.

Also note that the national markings from the Classic Airframes kit are to be used in conjunction with this decal release.

Some stencil markings are included on the decal sheet.

Instructions are by way of a full-colour, double-sided letter sized placement guide and an accompanying monochrome sheet with additional notes and a bibliography; plus paint suggestions for Xtracolor, Floquil, Polly Scale, Gunze, Tamiya, Model Master and even ProModeler.

The decals are perfectly printed, thin, in register and with a minimum of carrier film.

Whether you want to avoid painting stripes or just want different markings for your Wyvern, it is great to have these Cutting Edge decals for Classic Airframes' kit.
