The B-17 Flying Fortress is an aircraft that
just begs for nose art, especially in 1/48th scale. The latest sheet
from Cutting Edge offers markings for three different aircraft.
The first is a B-17F-60,”Carolina Boomerang” which could have grayed
out markings or red surrounds. Also from the same group is “Stingy”
a B-17G-1, which also sported grayed out markings. Nose art consists
of a boy carrying bombs on a cloud.
The third aircraft is a B-17G-35, “Mary Alice”. What is unique about
this aircraft is that it has a Cheyenne tail turret, available in
the Cutting Edge set CEC48417, and is painted in OD/NG. The markings
for this particular aircraft have been restored on an aircraft at
the Imperial War Museum.
This sheet does not include any of the national markings. You will
have to get those from the national markings sheets, CED48262 or
CED48263.
