Jerry Crandall's new book on Hans "Assi" Hahn is a great reference for the man and his machines. The book is packed with many helpful reference photos of his well-known and lesser-known aircraft.

It is great to see that this modellers have now been given an outlet for this photographic inspiration in the form of four new sets of decals for Hahn's aircraft, in addition to a few flown by other pilots that are relevant to Jerry's new book.

These decals are all available in 1/72 and 1/48 scale as well as 1/32 (EC#53 is not available in 1/32).

The three latest decal sheets are beautifully printed and in perfect register. The instruction artwork is labelled as airbrushed. I don't think that this implies that the images were actually produced using paint and airbrush, but rather that the artwork has finely reproduced halftones, mottles, weathering plus realistic depiction of light and shade..

In common with earlier EagleCals releases, the research behind these decals and the artwork is first class.

There is a good variety of markings and aircraft in these four decal sets. Specifically, the subjects covered on each sheet are:

EC#50 - Part 1

  • Bf 109E-3 "Black Chevron"  finished in 70/71/65

  • Bf 109E-3 "White 13" finished in RLM 02 and 71 over RLM 65 with a high fuselage demarcation line

  • Bf 109E-4 "White 14" finished in 02/71/65 with a yellow cowl and RLM 70 spinner

  • Bf 109E-4 "White Chevron-Triangle" finished in 02/71/65 with a yellow cowl and spinner

EC#51 - Part 2

  • Bf 109F-2 "White Chevron-Triangle" finished in 74/75/76 with a yellow cowl and rudder, and quartered spinner in RLM 70 and white.

Conclusion

These new releases are high quality, well researched decals that will be welcomed by all Luftwaffe modellers, and fans of Assi Hahn's aircraft in particular.

Recommended.
