Corsair decals must sell if the amount of sheets
covering it issued by Eagle Strike Productions is any indication!
48224 is part 3 in the current round of four sheets for the glossy sea
blue painted machines. The sheet features three US Navy aircraft that
flew from its carriers during the Korean War. These aircraft are:
F4U-4B
Bureau number 97507 of VF-53, (Iron Angels) aboard the USS Valley
Forge in circa 1950. The machine is in the standard overall glossy sea
blue scheme of the era with light blue trim (tip of the vertical
stabiliser and propeller dome). Her markings are just about all in
white and include:
-
Letter S Unit Identification Letter
-
310 modex
-
Bureau number block,
Next
is F4U-4 of VF-653, (Dragons) a Navy Reserve Squadron activated
for the Korean War, also aboard the USS Valley Forge but this time in
the 1951-52 period of the Korean War. The machine is in overall glossy
sea blue finish with red trim. The supplied markings are:
-
Letter H Unit Identification Letter,
-
313 modex,
-
Bureau number block,
-
NAVY and unit titles,
-
Squadron insignia.
The
final machine is F4U-4 Bureau number 94922 of VF-192 (Golden Dragons)
aboard the USS Princeton in 1952. Overall glossy sea blue finish
with white trim. Her markings are much the same of the previous option
and include:
-
Letter B Unit Identification Letter,
-
214 modex,
-
Bureau number block,
-
NAVY and unit titles,
-
Squadron insignia. Two different sets of these
are provided, one-piece versions and two piece versions to avoid any
register problems that may arise – none were evident on my sample.
-
A comprehensive scoreboard.
The
remaining decals on the sheet comprise two very complete sets of
stencil data. This stencil data also includes propeller logos and
propeller blade data.
The
placement guide is the standard A4 sized sheet with full colour port
side profiles of each option in the centre pages with smaller top and
bottom plan views of each option on the back page. A smaller black and
white sheet is also included. This sheet is the placement guided for
the myriad items of stencil data.
The
decals have been printed by Cartograph. They are very well printed,
thin; in perfect register and the white looks to be opaque enough to
survive application on the glossy sea blue finish without bleed through.
The
recommended kits are the Academy and Hasegawa ones.
The
decal sheet and placement guide come packed in a clear plastic zip-loc
bag.
Recommended.
