FirstLook

Hi Decals’s new release of F-84G of the French and Greek Air Force 48019 is printed to a very high standard. These are the first Hi Decal sheets that I have seen up close and I am most impressed.

The decals are in perfect register, sharply printed and excellent color definition. The carrier film is very thin and should disappear under a coating of clear finish. In particular the aluminum colour backing to some decals is very realistic and will save masking up these areas for colour separation.

The black and white reference sheet provided gives good reference for the colour application and decal placement. This area could be improved with a few more details, such as why the French Armee de l’Air aircraft has parts of the USAF stars and bars on the upper and lower wing surface with French insignia painted over and why both aircraft have some Artic Red areas. I am presuming the aircraft were ex USAF and the paint removal was difficult, or suited the new users. Both aircraft will lock very colourful in particular the Hellenic Air Force aircraft with its yellow and black tip tanks and rudder.
Markings are provided for two aircraft listed below:

F84G-21RE Thunderjet of E.C 1/3 “Navarre” French Armee de l’Air based at Reims in 1953.

This aircraft is natural metal with a black nose and black mid wing stripes, olive drab anti glare panel and spine, artic red tail, tail planes, and outer wing panels, and a yellow and black arrow on the wing tip tanks. The USAF markings are still in place on the wings with the French national markings over sprayed.

F84G-21RE Thunderjet of 340th Mira “Flying Foxes” of the 111th combat wing of the Royal Hellenic Air Force based at Nea Anthialos Air Force Base in 1954.

The aircraft is natural metal with a polished metal nose, olive drab anti glare panel and spine, artic red tail, tail planes, and ailerons, and yellow and black checkerboard panels on the wing tip tanks and rudder. A white and black Greek pattern panel is painted around the tail area just below the tail plane. This aircraft will look most striking when complete.

Highly Recommended
