Model Alliance turns its
attention to the English Electric Lightning with their latest decal release.
"Royal Air Force Early Bird Lightnings" cover six Lightning F.Mk.1s, Mk.1As and
Mk.3s that saw service in the 1960s and 1970s. These review sample is in
1/48 scale, but the same markings are also available from Model Alliance in 1/72
scale..
All the aircraft are finished
in overall natural metal, and are enhanced with the colourful RAF Squadron
markings of this era. Two of the aircraft also feature coloured fins and tails -
all white for the F.Mk.3 of 226 OTU; and red and white for the F.Mk.1A of 145
Squadron.
Instructions are supplied on a
single A4 folded sheet with port-side views of each aircraft. Quality of the
artwork and the colour callouts is very good. A handy list of Lightning interior
detail colours and accessory sets is included on the back page
of the instructions.
The decals themselves are
beautifully printed and in perfect register. Colours look accurate too.
This is another well-presented
and interesting release of an attractive subject.
Highly Recommended.
