Model Alliance’s new 1/48 scale release of Anniversary
Tonkas decals contains five schemes for the Tornado GR4 during the RAF’s 90
anniversary.
The decals are nicely silk-screen printed on a very clear
carrier film. The carrier film is quite thin and should disappear under a
coating of clear finish. The decals are very crisply printed and have good
detail and colour rendition. The colour reference sheet that is provided is
excellent giving good colour reference and decal placement for the 5 schemes
provided. A few small reference photographs of the aircraft are included on the
rear cover of the colour instruction sheet. All Aircraft are in the typical
Tornado GR4 scheme of Dark Camouflage Grey BS381C:629 and Dark Sea Grey
BS381:683. The artwork for the decals and instruction sheet have been done by
Jon Freeman and as usual looks to be spot on. Also included in this set is a
complete sheet of data decals for the Tornado, pylons, drop tanks, Boz and Sky
Shadow pods.

The five schemes are as follows:
-
Tornado GR4 ZA401-P of 13
Squadron based at RAF Marham in 2005. This Aircraft has a distinct
tri-colour fin segmented in Roundel Blue BS381C:110 Emerald Green and
Yellow.
-
Tornado GR4 ZG756-BX of 14
Squadron based at RAF Lossiemouth in 2005. This Aircraft has the complete
fin painted in Roundel Blue BS381C:110 with a diamond pattern streak and a
winged emblem.
-
Tornado GR4 ZA564-DK of 31
Squadron based at RAF Marham in 2005. This Aircraft has a the fin and spine
painted in Black BS381C:642 with a yellow and green streak leading to a gold
star that covers most of the tail.
-
Tornado GR4 ZA543-FF of 12
Squadron based at RAF Lossiemouth in 2005. This Aircraft has a the leading
edge of the fin and the spine painted in Black BS381C:642 with a black,
white and green horizontal streak leading to a fox head while the rudder is
painted in emerald green.
-
Tornado GR4 ZA585-AH of 9
Squadron based at RAF Marham in 2005. This Aircraft has a green and yellow
stripe painted along the spine and up through the fin with the Sqn emblem
located near the top of the fin.
In summary, this is a massive sheet of beautifully printed
decals for those lovers of Tornados. Now we just need a decent Tonka that does
not require a huge amount of work.
Highly Recommended.
