Back in January I reviewed a new
range of self-adhesive vinyl masks for aircraft in various scales
called Maxi Mask. The masks cover canopies, wheels, national
markings, codes and serial numbers.
Mini Masks were also released at the same time, covering canopies
and wheels alone.
Now
Plastic Model Club of Poland has released a new range to join these
first two called Super Mask. This series addresses the sole
criticism I had of the other sets - lack of colour and markings
instructions. Super Masks include masks for the outside and inside
of canopies, wheels, national markings and individual markings plus
colour diagrams in four views of the camouflage schemes covered.
The masks are presented in two different varieties of vinyl. Masks for national markings, codes and serials are die-cut from a
pale grey-green, thin translucent material very similar to Eduard
masks. This material is fairly flexible, and the adhesive is quite
low-tack (ie, not very sticky). This is fine for these larger shapes
which do not have to be fitted around complex curves.
Masks for canopies and wheels are delivered on thicker, black
vinyl with a much stronger adhesive. This is also ideal for canopy
masking as the black vinyl provides high contrast to line up against
canopy frames, and the strong adhesive won't let paint leak under
the edges of the masks during spraying.
I used some of the Maxi Masks back in January with very good
results - no paint bleeding under the masks and no sticky residue
after the material was removed from the kit.

Maxi Mask was a very effective masking solutions for
a growing range of models. With its colour camouflage reference,
Super Mask takes the idea one step further.
This method of masking national marking and individual numbers is
especially useful in larger scales, but will also be a good option
for 1/48 scale.
Recommended.
