MDC continues their theme of 1/32 scale Finnish decal
subjects with their latest offering - Messerschmitt Me 109G-6
Ilmavoimat Post War Service.
Only two subjects are covered - but what great
subjects! Both wear a basic finish of Luftwaffe RLM 74/75/76 greys and
post-war style roundels. The main subject is the striking racer finish
with a roughly painted blue and white chequerboard on the fuselage
sides, various meteor trails and giant "B" letters on the wing and
fuselage. The checks are supplied in three separate decal sections.
Markings are also provided for "Yellow 4", a well-known night fighter
with large bat artwork on each fuselage side.
The decals are supplied on a single 204mm x 142mm sheet.
They are well printed with perfect registration and minimal carrier
film. A nice inclusion is one full set of Finnish-language stencils.
I really like the style of spinner spiral decals too.
These are split into two parts - one for the tight spiral near the tip
and a second decal for the rear of the spinner. This should make
application less stressful. White and red spinner spirals are included.
Curiously, only four post-war Finnish roundels were
originally
provided on the sheet. The racer needs five roundels and "Yellow 4"
needs six. To their credit, following MDC has now printed a small
supplementary sheet with two additional roundels. This will be included
in all new sheets, and will be forwarded to modellers who have already
bought their sheets.
The instructions are printed in full colour on a
double-sided A4 glossy sheet. A brief history of the Bf 109G-6 in
Finnish service is also included.
MDC's Messerschmitt Me 109G-6 Ilmavoimat Post War
Service
is a high quality production that will give your big Hasegawa Gustav a
very different finish.
Thanks to MDC for the review sample.
