Nothing beats paint for that “painted
on look”. For National markings, in larger scales, in particular a
measurable benefit can be obtained from the use of painting masks.
Montex has come to the aid of anyone building the quite large 1/24 scale
Focke-Wulf Fw 190D from Trumpeter with two sets of unique markings, a
complete set of national markings and canopy masks.

Marking Options
Two late war Fw190D-9 aircraft are
depicted on the masks. These are:
-
White
11 of the 13./JG 51 flown by Fhj. Ofw Heinz Marquardt in April 1945
out of Eggersdorf Germany. From the ref pictures I had on had this
is a very dirty aircraft and indeed the real aircraft had panels
replaced all over the airframe. It would appear the front engine
access panels are from a different aircraft and are finished in a
combination of RLM 76 and RLM 82 the fuselage is c combination of
RLM 76a, 82 and 83. The underside is a combination of RLM 76a and 76
with the undercarriage doors in either primer or RLM 75.

White
1 of 13./JG 51, Flown by Fhj .Ofw Kurt Tanzer in April 1945 out of
Eggersdorf Germany. This aircraft is a handsome one and has a soft
mottle of RLM 75 and 82 on the fuselage and this colour combination
carries on the top of the wing in a soft splinter pattern. The
underside sides are RLM 76. This would make a great model in my
view.
This mask set is a very handy
accessory for delivering a different look to your big Trumpeter Dora.
The canopy masks in particular are very well done and the combination of
both and inside and outside mask is a great idea…. nothing worse than
shiny grey paint on the inside of German aircraft!
Recommended.
