Red Pegasus Decals is based in the U.S. city of Columbus, Ohio and
specialises in producing decals for air racing aircraft in both 1/72
and 1/48 scale.
Red Pegasus Decals RPD48010 supplies markings for Walt Ohlrich's
Tonopah Queen-Tom's Cat racing aircraft #10, a Grumman F8F-2
Bearcat.
This is another sheet from Red Pegasus Decals that would be an ideal
first step into the colourful world of air racing as the donor kit
will require little in the way of modification.
The suggested kits are the Hawk/Testors efforts and the later
Hobbycraft one. As mentioned above, the modifications required are
minimal. Simply remove the arrestor hook, fill the gun ports and you
are there. If you want to depict it as appeared later in life, you
will need to add a P-51H spinner and an extension to the tail cone.
Finish is overall "dark blue" but it did sport an overall white
finish with red and blue trim in 1967 but those marking s are not
provided.
The decals themselves are silk screen printed. They are thin and
have a moderate amount of carrier film around each subject. They
appear to be opaque enough to survive application over a dark blue
finish but only actual application will tell.
The decals are accompanied by an A-4 sized sheet that shows two
photographs of the machine at different stages of its life, as well
as colour and conversion notes to assist you in producing a 1/48
scale version.
The placement guide and the decal sheet come packed in a clear
plastic zip-loc bag.
This is a nice sheet that will produce a unique air racing model
with the minimum of conversion effort.
Recommended.
