One day while I was perusing through Two Bobs website I came across a
decal company I had never heard of called Scale Nutz. I scanned
through their few releases of decals and sheet A48016 caught my
eye. I love the Mig-29 and they offered a sheet of Mig-29Ns in
Malaysian service so $7.00 USD later here I sit with them.
Upon opening the envelope I was very pleased to find a very
nicely laid out instruction sheet and some very good looking
decals. Scale Nutz also give you a break down on how to modify
the Academy Mig-29 into an “N” model as well as common weapons
loads that the Malaysian Mig carries. Very helpful stuff. Next
comes the bonus!! Included with the Mig-29 decals are markings
for the forthcoming SU-30MKM Super Flanker which Malaysia will
take delivery of in mid 2006. Scale Nutz admit to speculating on
the paint scheme and eve go as far as providing “fake” pilot
names including one pilot named “Scale Nutz”!! Very funny. To
make an accurate SU-30MKM from the Academy kit you need the SOL
SU-37 conversion and the Neomega cockpit along with some
squaring up of the tip of the vertical stabs.

So here is what you get decal wise on the sheet:
1 Mig-29N TUDM 17 Squadron M43-06 “Typhoon” May 1995, Kuantan
Malaysia.
2. Mig-29N TUDM 19 Squadron M43-14 “Cobra”, LIMA 2001,
Langkawi Malaysia
3. Mig-29UB TUDM 17 Squadron M43-01 “Taufan Ganas”, May 2004,
TUDM Kuantan, Malaysia
4. Mig-29N TUDM 19 Squadron M43-03 “Tedung Selar” LIMA 2003,
Langkawl, Malaysia
All four of the Mig-29s carry the Russina Grey Green base
color with FS34226 over FS36314 camouflage scheme. The anti
glare panel is flat black and the nose cone is FS36118 (except
on the UB model).
For the SU-30MKM markings you get the following:
1. TUDM Proposed 11 Squadron “Golden Cobra” TUDM Subang,
Malaysia
2. TUDM Proposed 17 Squadron “Typhoon” , TUDM Kuantan,
Malaysia
3. TUDM Proposed 12 Squadron “Scorpion”, TUDM Butterworth,
Malaysia
The paint schemes on the SU-30s pretty much follow the same
colors and general layout of the Mig-29s. Please remember that
these are speculative schemes of aircraft that have not yet
entered service.
The decals themselves are quite well printed and are very
thin. There is minimal carrier film and the fin flash checkers
have very good color density. The tail artwork is also quite
well done. There appear to be enough stencils and National
Markings to do one of each type of aircraft.
All in all this is quite a nice sheet of decals. If you are
interested in smaller air force markings then this sheet should
not be passed up. For $7.00 USD I find it to be quite a bargain.
I purchased mine from Two Bobs at

but I think you are also able to order them direct from Scale
Nutz at
www.scalenutz.com
Highly Recommended.
