The days of nose art
always return when an air force is in combat for a period of time.
Seymour Johnson AFB
336th Fighter Squadron is no exception to this rule. Durin
Operation Iraqi Freedom the squadron gave quite a few of their jets
some really cool nose art. Two Bobs have given you the ability to
produce any one of five aircraft they depicted on heir Strike Eagles.
My personal favorite one on the sheet is “The Saddam Hunter” nose art
depicting a cartoon of Saddam with a bullseye over him. There are also
options with Marvin The Martian and Yosemite Sam. All four jets are
quite colorful and they all also sport mission markings.
Two Bobs give you one
set of national marking and enough stencils to do one of the aircraft.
All of the nose art decals are superbly rendered and each is a three
level decal. This provides the best look possible once all three are
on. Bob gets his decals printed by Microscale so for those who may
worry about a three level decal, have no fear. These decals are
extremely thin and have practically no carrier film visible. I am also
especially happy with the color of the slime lights. They seem perfect
to me.
The instructions are
Bobs usual full color affairs detailing all four aircraft. They also
have the list of kits and accessories available although Seamless
Suckers were left off the list J
. On the back side of the instructions there is a photo of the nose
art on “The Saddam Hunter” jet along with a brief modern history of
the unit and its Eagles. There are also top and bottom painting guides
along with different paint manufactures recommended paints.
All in all this sheet
plain rocks!! I am now forced to go out an buy yet another Pro Modeler
1/48 F-15E kit. I am a sucker for nose art and this sheet really did
make one heck of an impression on me. I would highly recommend it to
anyone who has or wants to have a Strike Eagle in their collection.
