I have always been a fan of Aggressor aircraft because of the
abundace of markings they have been painted in. The US Navy Fighter
Weapons school operates a squadron of Lockheed F-16A/Bs. This sheet
represents three of the aircraft from the NSAWC.
The
aircraft assigned to the NSAWC have quite a cool history. The
aircraft were previously earmarked for the Pakistani air force under
the Peace Gate III program. The Pakistani's inability to sign the
Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty prompted the US Government to
assign the aircraft to AMARC in Tucson, Arizona for storage. The US
eventually paid the Pakistani Government back for the money already
spent on the aircraft. The aircraft were eventuall assigned to the
USAF and a squadron for the USN. Edwards AFB received half of the
aircraft and NAS Fallon got the rest.
The aircraft are all Block 15 OCU upgrade F-16A/Bs and have very low
airframe hours. Several of them had less than 10 hours on the
airframes upon delivery. The aircraft based at NAS Fallon are
depicted on this sheet. There are four examples on this sheet and
all are quite cool looking. Here is a break down of the four
aircraft included:
-
F-16B #06 This aircraft is marked in a wraparound scheme of
FS30279, FS30219 and FS30140 It is quite a smart looking desert
scheme.
-
F-16A #51 This aircraft is marked exactly the same as aircraft
one. The only difference is a slightly different shape to the
scheme to compensate for the single seat setup.
-
F-16A #61 This aircraft is painted in a two tone grey scheme of
FS36270 and FS36118.
-
F-16A #50 This one is my personal favorite. It is painted in a
three tone blue and grey scheme of FS36320, FS35190 and FS35109.
I am a sucker for the blue and grey schemes.
One really nifty thing about these aircraft is that the radome is
painted to match the camouflage. I believe this is done because the
aircraft have no radar installed. I may be wrong but I believe that
is the case.
As usual with Two Bobs, the instruction sheet is very comprehensive
and in full color. There are reference photos of the actual aircraft
depicted on the sheet and a list of available kits and aftermarket
products that can be used. The decals themselves allow you to build
all four of the aircraft depicted! There are very few stencils
included but, that is because the real items have very little
stencilling on them. The decals themselves are printed by Microscale
and are very thin. The color density is also excellent.
I can wholeheartedly recommend this sheet. If you like colorful
Vipers this one is a must have.
Recommended.
