Well the VFA-82 Marauders have finally done it!! They went and
painted the single ugliest paint scheme ever applied to an F/A-18
Hornet!! The so called AFLAC Hornet has been given justice by Two
Bobs in both 1/48 and 1/72 scales. I will let the image of the
instruction sheet speak for itself.
The decal sheet is very colorful to say the least. On both sheets
you get markings for only the AFLAC Hornet as the markings pretty
much take up the entire sheet. The decals are super thin and my
samples are in perfect register with good color density on the white
and yellow of the birds head. Both sheets even include the markings
for the centerline tank if you wish to install it on your kit.
The instructions are full color and both have a half page photo of
the AFLAC Hornet in flight. This photo alone will help the modeler
with painting and weathering. On the back page of the instructions
there are 12 more photos of the actual jet for your reference. I
really like the fact that Two Bobs do this as it helps put a “face”
if you will on the aircraft you are planning on making. Also of note
on this particular jet is the near complete lack of stencils. Ob has
included all of the stencils on the decal sheet.
Personal feelings on the appearance of this jet aside, the decals
are still superb and very well researched. It is indeed a very
colorful jet. I guess beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder!!
