Xtradecals has released a decal sheet for Classic Airframes 1/48 scale Gloster Meteor F.8.

Eight aircraft are covered on this busy decal sheet. These subjects reflect the colourful fuselage markings of the period, when many RAF fighters were adorned with bars, checks, diamonds and more. Several of the subjects include even more striking markings, such as yellow tails and lightning bolts.

The decals are accompanied by attractive, full-colour instructions. Three small plan view diagrams accompany the nine profiles.

All subjects are UK based RAF aircraft, and feature full serial on both wing undersides and code letter on the nose wheel door:

  1. Gloster Meteor F.8 of 245 Sqn

    Overall Aluminium with a red experimental refuelling probe, blue/yellow Sqn chequered markings on fuselage side, and Squadron crest on outboard of engine nacelles.

  2. Gloster Meteor F.8 of 245 Sqn

    Dark Green and Dark Sea Grey over Aluminium with a yellow fin and blue lightning bolts, plus blue/yellow Sqn chequered markings on fuselage side.

  3. Gloster Meteor F.8 of 257 Sqn

    Overall Aluminium with a yellow fin, plus green/yellow Sqn chequered markings on fuselage side and small version on outboard of each engine nacelle.

  4. Gloster Meteor F.8 of 247 Sqn

    Overall Aluminium, red bar markings on fuselage side, red X on lower fin.

  5. Gloster Meteor F.8 of 263 Sqn

    Dark Green and Dark Sea Grey over Aluminium with yellow "C" on lower fin, red bars and superimposed blue crosses on fuselage side.

  6. Gloster Meteor F.8 of 64 Sqn

    Dark Green and Dark Sea Grey over Aluminium with yellow "R" and Squadron emblem on lower fin, red and blue cross-hatches on fuselage side.

  7. Gloster Meteor F.8 of 616 Sqn

    Dark Green and Dark Sea Grey over Aluminium with yellow "N" on lower fin, green bars and superimposed yellow diamonds on fuselage side.

  8. Gloster Meteor F.8 of 245 Sqn

    Two versions of this aircraft are supplied. Both are overall Aluminium. The first has fuselage codes 4D B. The second has assumed markings as it might have appeared when the yellow/black "Tiger Squadron" colours were applied either side of the fuselage roundels

The decal sheet is perfectly printed, with the multitude of colours all in register. Decal film appears to be very thin.

There are no national markings or stencils supplied with this decal sheet. The items provided in any of the Classic Airframes Meteor F.8 boxings will be perfectly adequate for this purpose.

This is a colourful and interesting release that will be welcomed by anyone building Classic Airframes new 1/48 scale Meteor F. Mk.8.
