Xtradecals has released a decal sheet for the recent 1/48 scale Airfix Hawk T.Mk.1a in RAF service.

A whopping 27 aircraft are covered on this amazing decal sheet. This is possible via a combination of good planning and the typically small markings carried on Hawks. The markings make up for their size with their large variety - checks, diamonds and plenty of unique artwork.

The subjects are finished in schemes including red, white and blue; red, white, blue and grey; the early scheme of Dark Sea Grey, Dark Green and Camouflage Grey; and the more recent (and familiar) low-visibility two-tone grey. Five of these grey machines are adorned with blue fins, while another four have black tails.. Even more interest is added due to artwork on the tails of all these Hawks.

There are is a full set of each of the three styles of national markings required for the various subjects. A small selection of stencil markings are included, and the instructions suggest supplementing these with the Model Alliance Hawk Data sheet ML48-116.

The decals are accompanied by attractive, full-colour instructions. Eight plan view diagrams accompany the 27 profiles. All the illustrations are small owing to the very large number of subjects, but I found them to be quite legible with decal numbers assisting placement.

The decal sheet is perfectly printed, with the multitude of colours all in register. Decal film appears to be very thin.

This is a fabulous decal sheet literally jam packed with interesting subjects - a must for modellers plannig to build one or more Airfix 1/48 scale Hawk T.Mk.1A kits.

Highly Recommended
