Yellow-Wings Decal Releases December 2006

We released our first 1/48 scale decals just over two and one half years ago and they were received with great enthusiasm. They obviously filled a void, that being aircraft of the “Golden Age” and beyond, to early WWII.

Since then we have been showered with requests to release our decals in the other two popular scales (1/72 & 1/32). We agree that there are quite a number of 1/72 & 1/32 scale subjects that would fit into the “Golden Age” or “Yellow-Wings” era of our decals.

1/72 scale has dozens of Yellow-Winged or Pre-WWII kits available and although 1/32 scale doesn’t have quite as many, there are a number of 1/32 scale kits available now with many more on the horizon.

We are also planning to offer decals for USAAC aircraft later this year. So with our customers in mind, we will be producing decals in all 3 popular scales. PS: To date we are the only decal company offering decals for the “NEW” Trumpeter SBD-1/2/3 Dauntless series (32-001 & 32-026) “NEW” (32-027).

48-010: SBU-1/2 Vindicator Complete Package

This decal sheet was designed for use with the Accurate Miniatures SB2U-1/2 Vindicator kits.

The decal sheet contains no less than five different aircraft schemes.

1. SB2U-1, 1-MF-19 (BuNo0769) from Marine Fighter Squadron One (VMF-1) Quantico, Virginia 1940.
2. SB2U-2, Commander Air Group USS Yorktown (CV-5) from 9/1939 to 6/1941 (BuNo1354)
3. SB2U-2, Commander Air Group USS Wasp (CV-7) from 7/1939 to 7/1941 (BuNo1379)
4. SB2U-2, 2-F-19 Utility aircraft from USS Lexington (CV-2) The Flying Chiefs (BuNo1327)
5. SB2U-2, Commander Tactical Unit One (TU-1) Battle Force Pacific Fleet 1941 (BuNo1381)

32-003: USN Grumman F3F-3 Biplane VF-5 & VF-6

This decal was designed for use with the Revell/Monogram 1/32 scale kit of the Grumman F3F-3 Bi-Plane. The decal sheet contains three different aircraft schemes.

1. F3F-3, 5-F-7 3rd section leaders aircraft from USS Yorktown (CV-5) (BuNo1454)
2. F3F-3, 5-F-10 4th section leaders aircraft from USS Yorktown (CV-5) (BuNo1451)
3. F3F-3, 6-F-15 3rd aircraft of 5th section of USS Enterprise (CV-6) (BuNo1451)

The set contains wing chevrons & fuselage bands in the appropriate section colors.

This is a 2-decal set.

32-004: USN F4F-3 “Wildcat”, VF-41 & VF-72

This decal set was designed for use with the “NEW” Trumpeter F4F-3 “Wildcat” kit soon to be released.

The set contains decals for three different aircraft.

1. F4F-3, 72-F-1, 1st section leaders aircraft from USS Wasp (CV-7) (BuNo1883) early 1941
2. F4F-3, 72-F-16, 6th section leaders aircraft from USS Wasp (CV-7) (BuNo1880) early 1941
3. F4F-3, 41-F-18, 3rd aircraft in the sixth section of USS Ranger (CV-4) (BuNo1864) early 1941

The set contains wing chevrons, fuselage bands, squadron insignia, tri-color prop tips etc.
This is a 2-piece decal set.

32-009: SBD-1/2/3 Dauntless Complete Stencil Pkg.

This decal sheet was designed for use with the Trumpeter SBD series of Dauntless.
The sheet contains enough stencil material to do 3 aircraft.
There are stencils for inside the cockpit as well as the exterior of the aircraft.

32-011: USN F2A-2 “Buffalo”

This decal set was designed for use with the “NEW” Special Hobby F2A-2 “Buffalo” kit.

It contains decals enough for three different aircraft.

1. F2A-2, 2-F-13, Fifth section leader's aircraft from VF-2 USS Lexington (CV-2) (BuNo1418) 1940
2. F2A-2, 3-F-17, 2nd plane in the 6th section from USS Saratoga (CV-3) (BuNo1432) Mid 1941
3. F2A-2, Training aircraft with early 1942 oversize National Insignia and red & white tail stripes.
The set also contains wing chevrons, fuselage bands, squadron insignia, tri-color prop tips and more.
This is a 3-piece decal set.

32-027: SBD-3 Dauntless #06624 “Operation Torch”

Designed for use with the Trumpeter SBD-3 Dauntless kit, but will also work well with the old MPC/Matchbox and Revell/Monogram kits. This is another very special decal set since as it chronicles the life history of another very historic aircraft. SBD-3 Dauntless #06624 is a survivor of “Operation Torch” one of the major events in US Navy History in WWII in the ETO. The decal set follows the life history of #06624 beginning in late 1942 to its final assignment as a training aircraft and crash into Lake Michigan in 1943. Like the Phoenix of old BuNo 06624 was raised from the depths of Lake Michigan and was brought back to life and now resides in the Kalamazoo Air Zoo & Aircraft Museum in Kalamazoo, MI. The decal set contains two different schemes this aircraft wore during its military service, it has a companion set of decals just for the Stencils used on this and other SBD-1/2/3 aircraft (#32-009). This is a 2-piece decal set.
