Yellowhammer has introduced another fine quality 1/48 scale decal sheet depicting farewell schemes for the F14D Tomcats of VF-31 and VF-101. This is the second sheet in the series following on from the very colourful aircraft schemes depicted in YHD48031.

The decals are designed for the Hasegawa or Revell 1/48 scale kits. The decals are superbly printed with good colour saturation and excellent register. As usual the carrier film is ultra thin and my experience with the Yellowhammer decals that I have used in the past is that the decals have to be handled carefully and snuggle down into the surface detail well. The carrier film then almost totally disappears under a coat of clear.

Most of the data decals are provided as well as some very small but nice tail emblems that look like a Phoenix and these have been provided in the PYN-up format. Markings are provided for 2 aircraft as follows:

  1. F14D of VF-31 Tomcatters based at NAS Oceana Virginia in March 2006 Serial No 164342 painted in FS36320 and FS35237 upper surface and FS36375 Lower Surface. The aircraft has the main and ventral fins painted all over black with the Felix emblem painted in a large yellow circle.

  2. F14D of VF-101 Grim Reapers based at NAS Oceana Virginia in September 2005 Serial No 164601 painted in FS16440 upper surface and FS17875 Lower Surface. The aircraft has the large red area painted on the fin with the letters AD in black. Interestingly the ventral fins and the rudders are painted gloss white.

The guys at Yellowhammer have once again done a superb job of the decal artwork and the instruction sheet artwork. Two photographs of the aircraft depicted are included within the instruction sheet for further clarity.

Highly Recommended
