Yellowhammer has introduced another fine quality decal sheet depicting CAGs and Skippers schemes for three F/A-18F Super Hornets. This is the second sheet in the Superbug series.

The decals are designed for the Hasegawa 1/48 scale kit. The decals are superbly printed with good colour saturation and excellent register. As usual the carrier film is ultra thin and my experience with the Yellowhammer decals that I have used in the past is that the decals have to be handled carefully and snuggle down into the surface detail well. The carrier film then almost totally disappears under a coat of clear.

All of the data decals are provided and full markings are provided for 3 aircraft as follows

  1. F/A-18F of VFA-213 Black Lions flown by Capt Bill Sizemore CAG Serial No 166663 painted in FS36320 upper surface and FS36375 Lower Surface. The aircraft has the rudder and fin cap painted in Blue but the FS number is not specified. The Black Lion emblem is trimmed in gold and the eight gold stars are applied over the blue rudder.

  2. F/A-18F of VFA-11 Red Rippers flown by LCDR Lawrence Serial No 166634 painted in FS36320 upper surface and FS36375 Lower Surface. The aircraft has the leading edge of the fin and fin cap painted in Red but the FS number is not specified. The cockpit and upper spine looks to be painted dark blue and once again the FS number is not specified. The Razorback or Pigs head emblem is nicely printed and is centred on the grey area of the fin.

  3. F/A-18F of VFA-11 Red Rippers flown by Capt Massey CAG Serial No 166632 painted in FS36320 upper surface and FS36375 Lower Surface. The aircraft has the leading edge of the fin and fin cap painted in Red with the remainder of the fin painted in dark blue but the FS numbers are not specified. The cockpit and upper spine looks to be painted dark blue and once again the FS number is not specified. The Razorback or Pigs head emblem is nicely printed and is centred on the dark blue area of the fin.

Yellowhammer have included masks to paint the blue cockpit and spine area on both aircraft which is a fitting touch and saves a lot of work in lining up the masking.

The guys at Yellowhammer have once again done a superb job of the decal artwork and the instruction sheet artwork. Two photographs of the aircraft depicted are included within the instruction sheet for further clarity.

Highly Recommended
