Another of Yellow Wings Decals promised forays into 1/72 scale, this sheet provides you with enough markings to replicate any of the machines operated by both VB-2 and VB-3.

Being in the smaller 1/72 scale, Yellow Wings are able to fit enough markings onto a single sheet as opposed to the two that would normally be required to cover the same subject in 1/48 scale.

The sheet supplies markings for 12 different machines, six from either squadron. The markings are pretty well complete with exception of the national insignia (which you can get from the Yellow Wings sheet 72-001) and include wing chevrons in section colours, fuselage bands for the section leader's machines, propeller tip markings, fuselage codes, bureau numbers (thankfully, Yellow Wings have produced each and every one of these as a one-piece decal as opposed to simply supplying a plethora of separate numbers and have you cobble together a Bureau number), U.S. Navy titles, and squadron insignia.

As always, the supporting information supplied by Yellow Wings is comprehensive. This information is printed on both sides of two A-4 sized pages and includes three view black and white drawings of representative machines from each squadron on the front and a table that informs you on what markings were worn by each Bureau number.

The decals themselves have been printed by Microscale. As usual, they are thin, in perfect register and exhibit an absolute minimum of carrier film.

The decal sheet and supporting information are packed into a clear plastic zip-loc bag along with a stiff cardboard header to stop the decal sheet from being creased.

No recommendation as to what kit to use has been given. As far as I understand, 1/72 scale Vindicators are pretty thin on the ground and what there is available is from limited run producers like MPM, Pavla, Condor, Esoteric and Special Hobby.

A great product from Yellow Wings Decals which is as every bit as good as their other first rate packages.

Recommended.
